Your wellbeing is our priority at United Learning. It is vital for us to have a healthy and happy workforce which, in turn, ensures you are providing the best education for children. We are working hard to develop our practice across the Group – ensuring our employees consistently operate a healthy work-life integration.

We are working with Robertson Cooper on a programme to support wellbeing which all schools will have access to. We offer better and better-targeted rewards to support the health and wellbeing of colleagues, such as discounted gym memberships, Cycle2Work schemes and free counselling. We provide you time to think and prepare for the term ahead, with a minimum of eight INSET days a year - at least three dedicated to planning.

'A Good Day at work'

Our Wellbeing Initiative with Robertson Cooper

In 2016, we commissioned national wellbeing experts Robertson Cooper to support schools with the integration of staff wellbeing into their everyday approach. They have provided training sessions, resilience support, resources and ongoing advice on proactively managing staff wellbeing within United Learning schools.

10 schools signed up for our first pilot, who will be continuing their work into the 2017-18 academic year. An additional nine schools have committed to work with our wellbeing experts in introducing more ‘Good Days at Work’ as our work grows to reach every colleague across the Group.

The gift of time

At least eight INSET Days, including three dedicated planning days, per year

From September 2017, every academy within the Group will start each term with a dedicated 'planning day' where the school is closed to pupils and teachers will be able to prepare for the term ahead. To allow this to happen, all our academies will have at least eight INSET days per year from next academic year onwards.

These extra INSET days provide valuable support to staff and make a contribution to improving working life at a time when reforms to curriculum, exams and testing (amongst other things) are creating significant demands. Additionally, we hope that creating this additional time to prepare will be good our colleagues' health and wellbeing, as well as, by giving you more preparation time before the pressures of the term begin, they will be beneficial for teaching and therefore for the education children receive.
