Leaders create the conditions in which others can give of their best in pursuit of a great cause. They create the belief and expectation that remarkable things can be done; and they nurture individuals and build relationships so that those things can be achieved. They give enough of themselves to allow others to trust and understand, but never put themselves ahead of the cause. Jon Coles, CEO of United Learning

The importance of leadership

At United Learning, our leaders make all the difference.

From Assistant Principals to Regional Directors and beyond, we know those in leadership positions across our Group are vital to the success of our schools. Strong leaders implement school improvement strategies, motivate staff and inspire pupils. They ensure that every child, in every one of our schools, receives the education they deserve.

So when you join us, you’ll be asked to take a role in supporting the leadership of the Group, working with other leaders, as well as sharing ideas and best practice. You’re not just leading your school, you’re seizing the opportunity to shape an organisation.

A national support network

Without high expectations, we won’t achieve the best for our pupils. Many of our schools are located in deprived areas or face challenging situations, and only the best leaders can ensure they reach their full potential – so we expect a lot from ours. From leading school improvements to building Group-wide networks to motivating pupils, you will be vital in bringing out the best in everyone.

As part of United Learning, you’re never alone in your efforts. Our academies and independent schools work together to achieve more than any school could alone. Principals and leaders have the support of strong networks, outstanding educational support and professional development.

We know that teaching can be tough – but with the right support on hand, we make it easier. Exceptional central support services take much of the usual strain associated with administrative responsibilities, so you can focus on educational leadership and support our tireless pursuit of creative ways to educate.

You’ll benefit from the wealth of knowledge and experience of more than 60 schools across the country, across every phase and sector. We choose to work together to develop and share effective practice, systematically – and we’ll continue to develop initiatives that help you and your school to provide outstanding education for every pupil.

Regional Clusters

Ours schools work together at regional level as 'clusters', sharing knowledge and resources. They are also connected virtually by our intranet, ensuring that everyone has access to a national network of support.

They help everyone to provide education as effectively and efficiently as possible, and to reduce workloads.

The United Learning Curriculum

Based on a mastery approach, our Curriculum spans key subjects and defines the essential teaching and learning for each year.

Consistent, yet also allowing schools the flexibility to deliver it in the way that works best for them, the Curriculum ensures that every pupil progresses appropriately.

 A national enrichment programme

From performing onstage at the Lyceum Theatre and designing competition-winning apps, to our Scholars' Club lecture series and university access initiative, our Enrichment Programme provides opportunities that our pupils would never have had access to outside of our Group.

You're not alone

Leading a school can be lonely, but not at United Learning. With the support of Heads, Regional Directors, the Senior Leadership Team, and our central support function, you’ll always have someone to turn to.

Our Group Education Forums and Annual Leadership Conference bring our leaders together several times each year. Meanwhile our coaching network and Directory of Good Practice give you access to help from colleagues across the Group – when you need it. You’ll also have access to the dedicated business experts including Finance and HR Business Partners in our Educational Support teams.
