ABOUT US

Teaching is a challenging – yet fantastic – profession. It takes a dedicated practitioner with a solid team of support staff behind them to make a real difference to a child’s life.

That’s why we believe so passionately in the power of sharing. When everyone is working together towards the same goal, we enrich life for every member of staff.

Sharing is behind our ambitious and dynamic network. Quite simply, ‘Better Shared’ is our promise to share resources and facilities between schools, because pooling our capabilities reduces unnecessary workloads and improves educational outcomes. What’s more, it means a better working environment, and work-life balance, for you.

By sharing, we bring out ‘the best in everyone’, see that our pupils fulfil their full potential, and help our staff to fulfil their personal and professional ambitions.

The United Learning Ethos is Very Simple

We’re committed to providing the best education and opportunities for the 39,000 children and young people that attend our expanding group, improving their life chances.

With more than 50 schools in our group, ranging from independent schools to state primary, secondary and all-through academies, we’re proud to say we’re supporting children from every walk of life.

Support

We place particular emphasis on supporting those from low income families in areas of high unemployment and deprivation.

Perhaps most uniquely, we’re uniting the state and independent sectors, to get the best out of every pupil and member of staff, and creating education and career development opportunities that wouldn’t otherwise exist.

Sharing

Sharing runs through every part of what we do – and that’s where you come in.

Bringing a willingness to work closely with colleagues, forging relationships with other schools and sharing your own resources, you’ll be an essential part of this exciting dialogue. We believe that working as a team makes every school stronger and provides better life experiences for pupils.

Making ‘Better Shared’ Work for You

Six core values underpin everything we do, and we demonstrate all them with tangible activities and benefits that you'll experience every day. Simply put, our values ensure we can deliver excellence with integrity.

They also make sure that you are supported every step of the way: by collaborating with each other, we make day-to-day working life more manageable, and more rewarding, and improve the professional development of the whole team, from support staff members to teachers.

We are immensely proud to have a long and illustrious history that spans more than 130 years.

Our Framework for Excellence has helped us to achieve consistently across the network. But it’s our recent achievements that we’re most excited about.

Academic Achievements

Most importantly, our pursuit of excellence is reflected in our academic achievements.

  • We saw a 36% increase in the number of academies ranked Good and above between 2010 and 2013.

  • 91% of the Group's independent school students gained all A* - Cs in their A Levels in 2014.

  • And we've achieved a 9% increase in pupils making or exceeding expected progress in GCSE English.

Awards

Walthamstow Academy was recently awarded the ‘Inclusion Quality Mark Centre of Excellence’, while Stockport Academy picked up the ‘Accord Coalition Inclusivity Award’.

Our Central Support Teams have been recognised too. We recently won the public sector 'HR Team of the Year' award at the annual CIPD People Awards and HR Magazine’s 2016 HR Excellence Award for 'Outstanding Employer Engagement Strategy'.
